The Fresh Milk Market
National consumption of fresh drinking milk was 578 million litres in 2019.
Domestic supplies from registered producers had a 75% share of the domestic fresh milk market while milk imports had a market share of 25%.
Sales of whole milk represented 62% of fresh milk sales while sales of lowfat and skimmed milks represented 38% of sales.
Retailers were the main distribution channel for fresh milk distributing 75% of all fresh milk sales, followed by the food service channel at 20% and doorstep delivery at 5%.
Last year the domestic fresh milk market utilised over 5% of annual domestic milk supplies of 8 billion litres.
