The National Milk Agency was established by the Oireachtas to regulate the supply of milk for liquid consumption throughout the State in accordance with the provisions of the Milk (Regulation of Supply) Act, 1994.
The fresh milk market is the largest consumer market for milk and milk products in the State with an estimated retail value of €664 million in 2023.
Irish consumers have one of the highest per capita consumptions of Fresh Milk in the world with an annual per capita consumption of 113 litres.
Registered Producers
Registered producers with contracts numbering 1,228 producers, are a specialist dedicated group in Ireland’s milk production structure, who are contracted to supply milk for processing for liquid consumption on an all year-round basis or for the winter months only.
Registered Processors
12 processors were registered in 2023, including one processor who was also a registered producer.
The integrity and transparency of Ireland’s Fresh Milk supply chain for consumers and customers is evidenced by the participation of all registered producers in Bord Bia’s Sustainable Dairy Assurance Scheme and all registered processors in Bord Bia’s Origin Green Scheme.
